Leslie Pearl Huddleston passed away on December 25, 2013 at the age of 90 years. She was born on May 18, 1923 to Leslie and Martha Slaughter in Edgewood, Texas. She graduated from Edgewood High School in 1940 and from Texas Woman’s University in 1943. While teaching school in Athens, Texas she met John Huddleston. They married in 1949 and their marriage continued until John’s death in 2002. Leslie and John lived in Harlingen, Texas from 1949 until 1997. After teaching school briefly in Harlingen she devoted her time to raising her children and volunteering in many civic, charitable and church activities. After her children left home to attend college, she took real estate courses and became a successful broker. She actively sold real estate until she retired and moved to San Antonio with John in 1997 to live closer to their children and grandchildren. She was active in many civic and charitable organizations including Beta Sigma Phi, PEO Sisterhood, Assistance League of San Antonio and Alamo Heights United Methodist Church. Survivors include her son, Alex Huddleston and his wife, Gretchen; her daughter, Sara Planto and her husband, Richard; four grandchildren, John Huddleston of Atlanta, GA, Beth Huddleston of Dallas, Rebekah Planto of Chicago, Il and Sam Planto of San Antonio. John, her husband of 52 years, her parents and her brothers, H. Leon Slaughter and Max Slaughter preceded her in death. A memorial service will be conducted on December 30, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, 825 E. Basse Rd., San Antonio, TX. Memorial donations may be made to Alamo Heights United Methodist Church or First United Methodist Church, 321 E. Harrison, Harlingen, TX or the charity of the donor’s choice.
